This award highlights the top 40 emerging stars under the age of 35 in the occupational health and safety industry. Each recipient honored in 2023 represents a commitment to inspiring innovation and improving conditions in the workplace.

Celebrating Mike’s Contributions to Blackline

Mike is being recognized for his extensive knowledge of gas detection technology, passion for health and safety, and superb leadership. His attentive customer support has been critical to Blackline Safety’s continuous growth and retaining 99.5% of key accounts.

“Mike’s knowledge of Blackline Safety’s solutions is exemplary, and he has been a tremendous leader for many of our most important initiatives. He has been crucial to the ongoing success of many clients, as well as transferring knowledge to new employees,” said Donnovan Simon, Director, Client Success. “This recognition is very well deserved, and Mike is a committed learner who will only continue to improve as a leader in the application of connected safety technology.”

Onsite Accident Underscores the Need for Connected Safety

With four years at Blackline under his belt, Mike currently oversees a team of five client success managers (CSMs). Before joining our team, Mike spent over eight years working industrial roles in remote, hazardous locations learning firsthand why connected safety technology is so important.

While working on a northern Alberta oil and gas service rig one day, Mike suffered a workplace accident that shattered his thumb into 16 pieces. There were only six other people on site, and it took several minutes for a coworker to find and assist Mike. The site also had minimal first aid supplies and limited cellular reception, so it took a long time for Mike to get the help he needed.

Experience and Empathy Create a Leader

Mike’s extensive experience in the field and his own worksite accident have given him a thorough understanding of the various challenges workers face every day. He also brings genuine empathy and insight to his leadership role, helping many Blackline clients implement and maintain devices and services as part of their overall health and safety program.

“I’m honored to be acknowledged for contributing to an industry—occupational health and safety—that is vital for protecting workers and ensuring they arrive home safe every day,” said Mike. “Establishing myself as a leader stems from collaborative effort, with Blackline Safety’s industry leading technology, vision and thought leadership, incredible clients, and our team all helping to make this possible.”

Please join us in congratulating Mike on this outstanding achievement!
